I wish it were so. I wanted to do a clean install on my SSD. One of the partitions would NOT let me format it. All the other existing GPT partitions would allow themselves to be formatted. And some of the settings from the last W8 start screen. It is obvious that one of these partitions is not formatted and retains some data for the next install.

Then I went back, reinstalled and at the "repair computer" went to the c prompt and manually typed "format c:". Windows then formatted c.

Guess what? I know this can be done but it is not as simple as indicated in some of these threads. Maybe people have just not noticed it - yet. Do I guess following your instructions will format most of the existing GPT partitions. When I do this, the GParted tool has proven to be the most reliable way for me to make sure a drive is completely empty and ready to be installed to.
