Xbox 360 hang during update

I just bought an original xbox elite off of Ebay. I went to download the software update and it went smoothly, until it got to the "applying update.

Do not turn off or unplug your xbox" message. I've searched for a fix for about 3 hours now, and I've only found a couple people with this same problem as me.

They all had xbox elites. Does anybody know a fix for this? My warranty sticker is still in place, and the console was sold as new. Take off the hard drive and try it with a usb memory stick that is formatted as a memory unit. You can format it in the dashboard. Player1 : I still love the drama. Internet years are long. Thank you!!!!! It looks like it is a pretty common problem : here is the Microsoft answer to the problem and it looks like they are awre of it. Nate S. The first issue I ran into with this was realizing that if you plug the power supply into a surge protection strip, it will almost always lock up. The best way to prevent this is to simply plug it into the wall. Make sure it's got a lot of air and isn't in a tight place.

Otherwise, you'd have to get a bit more techincal with it, often involving replacements. It's not nice to spend the for a repair, but I would not recommend doing unapproved procedures, as Microsoft can and will check for these if you try them. If you send it in, they will give it back reporting that they will not attempt to fix an opened unit. Osama Khan. I'm also having a kinda same problem it gets stuck on intro screen on Xbox logo or on the ribbons with black line on one of the green ribbon. If not, then your is about to get the rrod. You should get a reflow done. Do not do the overheating trick with the rrod repair kit that a lot of people around here are recommending. I tried doing what Microsoft said on their website, but then this update came up and I cant update it because I don't have enough storage because I had to take my hard drive out again, so when I pressed no for the update it froze, every single time. I am dying to find out what is causing it I might check the hard drive again Fouzan Ali.
